Karl Nietvelt is S&P Global’s head of Analytics and Research for Infrastructure ratings. This comprises Infrastructure Corporate entities, Utilities and Project finance. Karl is based in Paris and works with a team of 12 industry experts across the globe to set out the strategy on research themes and speaking engagements at conferences. He is also responsible for analytical issues, spanning from criteria to transition and default analysis. Other areas of expertise include Green Finance, ESG and Energy transition.

Karl has accumulated over 20 years of credit experience in Utilities, Infrastructure and Project finance as well as Oil&Gas/Metals&Mining. He used to head S&P Ratings Utilities and Commodities teams in EMEA. Prior to joining S&P Global in 2000, Karl worked 5 years in banking in London in the field of Commodity Trade finance.

Karl has a Masters in Finance at ESSEC (Paris), combined with a Electro- Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Leuven (Belgium).
